THE SCAPULAR
Today what started near the spring of Elijah, off a mountain range near Jerusalem, has blossomed into a tremendously rich family of men and women of various walks of life, cultural backgrounds and age diversity. Men and women ready to face the challenges of the world today with hope in a God who loves generously. As Carmelites, we are all called to a deep loving relationship with God. One that includes the Blessed Virgin Mary, as we are one of the very first religious families formed by her maternal love. As members of her family, we bear some of here symbols in our clothing. The Brown Scapular is a symbol of the Virgin Mary’s maternal care and love of her Carmelite Family. The brown Scapular is universally recognized by the Church, and people throughout the world wear or keep a scapular near them as a sign that they love and honor the Mother of God.
